| Purpose & Aims |
The curriculum for RE aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Know about and understand a range of religions and worldviews
- Express ideas and insights about the nature, significance and impact of religions and worldviews
Gain and deploy the skills needed to engage seriously with religions and worldviews
| Organisation of the Curriculum |
- KS1focus on Christianity and Islam. Children learn about other religions and worldviews in thematic units.
- KS2focus mainly on Christianity, Hinduism and Judaism in Lower KS2.
Christianity, Islam and Sikhism are mainly studied in Upper KS2 and non-religious worldviews are included for study in the thematic unit.

The right of withdrawal
In the UK, parents still have the right to withdraw their children from RE on the grounds that they wish to provide their own religious education. (School Standards and Framework Act 1998 S71(3). This will be the parents’ responsibility. However, we will talk to parents to ensure that they understand the aims and value of RE before honouring this right. All requests should be made in writing.
If parents withdraw children from RE lessons or any part of the RE curriculum, the school has a duty to supervise the children, not to provide additional teaching or to incur extra cost.
